A Banner Announcing Scott Brownlee's Appearance at TFNation 2026 sponsored by TF at The Moon

SOUND MIX SUPERIOR

TFNation has always been about celebrating all the work that goes into the creation of our favourite transforming robots franchise. With 2026 being the 40th anniversary of the first big screen outing for the Cybertronians, we’re making sure to delve even deeper into the details and nifty bits, answering questions such as: how did Soundwave get his voice? Answer: Scott Brownlee!

Brownlee served as a Sound Engineer on both the original Sunbow cartoon, and 1986's fan favourite The Transformers: The Movie. This role saw him working in the booth with Director Wally Burr as the actors put their immortal lines onto tape! He is also the person behind the mixing and editing that created the iconic, distorted, Soundwave voice, as reported by voice actor Frank Welker.

Away from the Transformers, Brownlee is currently a Recording Arts Lecturer in the School of Film and Television in Los Angeles, USA, following his retirement from UCLA.  You might also have encountered his handiwork on other animated properties through the 1980s and 1990s, such as Muppet Babies, The Tick, G.I. Joe: The Revenge of Cobra, and the Little Mermaid TV series.

This appearance is brought with thanks to Transformers At The Moon, a longtime fan-site powered by TFN's own Mapes Brothers!  TF@TheMoon has always championed the preservation of original Transformers audio recordings, many of which have kindly been shared at our events over the years. Naturally, this pairing with Scott is a match made in heaven! Or, should we say, Burbank!

Scott Brownlee will be joining us for TFNation 2026, confirming once and for all the true meaning of chrazimatic! Stay tuned for more details on the TFNation website -- where All Are One!
