Declassified: Local travel directions

The journey many of our attendees make can be split into two parts. The first part is getting to Birmingham from wherever they are in the world, through national or international travel. The second is a far smaller but often confusing journey - getting from various points in Birmingham to the Hilton Metropole venue itself. To assist, here is a quick basic guide to local travel.

CONTENTS

1) From Birmingham International train Station to Hilton Birmingham Metropole
2) From Birmingham International Airport to the Hilton Birmingham Metropole
3)From Hilton Birmingham Metropole to Resortworld
   Overnight access (midnight to 6am)
4) Train Station / NEC out of hours access.

1) FROM BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL TRAIN STATION TO HILTON BIRMINGHAM METROPOLE
Option 1: Walking - 15mins

Walking out of the ticket barriers at the train station, THEN TURN RIGHT.
Walk down long overpass corridor and down stairs into the NEC. THEN TURN RIGHT
Walk straight through NEC, and out through main entrance doors. CONTINUE STRAIGHT AHEAD.
Walk towards lake once you reach it, THEN TURN LEFT.
After 100meters you will see the entrance to the Hilton signposted. TURN RIGHT.
The path to the Hilton runs through a small wooded area. In 2mins you will see the back of the Hilton.

Option 2: Hotel Minibus (every 30mins)
The Hilton operates a minibus from the station taxi area to the hotel. It runs every 30mins, though you can call to request it. It is provided for Hilton residents. We recommend you clarify the exact pickup point as this is subject to change.

To order: opposite the train station ticket barrier is a subway branch. On the far side of that is a Hilton minibus phone, free of charge.

Minibus pickup point:
Exiting the train ticket barriers and then TURN LEFT
As you exit area, look for escalators on your left HEAD DOWN
Walk ahead to the taxi/bus station, once outside HEAD LEFT
The Hilton stop is on the left side of the area.

Option 3: Taxi/Bus
Follow the Minibus guide to reach the bus station and taxi rank.

2) FROM BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO HILTON BIRMINGHAM METROPOLE

Once you have cleared arrivals, turn LEFT and walk into the main terminal building.
Go UP the escalators. This will lead you to the main concourse area.
Look for the Burger King store near the top of the escalators. Next to this is the free one-stop monorail link to the train station. If it is not already on its way, you can “call” the monorail via the DEMAND button.
Take the monorail to the train station.
Walk straight out of the monorail into the centre of the train station (you will see the Subway store).
Then follow the guide above to get to the Hilton.

3) FROM HILTON BIRMINGHAM METROPOLE TO RESORT WORLD

Exit the Hilton, from the rear entrance (the glass doors near our main hall) and walk back towards the NEC.
Once you reach the lake, you will see Resortworld across the water. Walk around the lake to reach the complex.

4) TRAIN STATION / NEC OUT OF HOURS ACCESS

Direct access between the train station and the NEC is shut between approx. 1am and 6am. We suggest taxis are utilised during this time as the walking alternative is a longer distance.

However, if you do wish to walk:

4.A.) NIGHT WALK: FROM HILTON BIRMINGHAM HOTEL TO BIRMINGHAM INTERNATIONAL TRAIN STATION

Follow route back to the main NEC entrance.
Follow the building round its left side and walk down Perimeter road until you see the stairs up to Birmingham Train Station

From there, head towards the lake, TURN LEFT.
